Add Smart Gifts

Smart gifts are items shown on a member’s Rewards Screen which they can redeem at your business. They can be anything—from products to discount vouchers. They can also be added to the Point Shop, sent as scratch cards, etc. You can use gifts to reward members on different occassions:

  • For joining the loyalty club (called a joining gift)
  • As birthday or holiday treats
  • For sharing an item on Facebook
  • For accumulating a certain number of points
  • After completing a survey

Note: You can also use gifts to give only a specific group of members access to app features (surveys, links, images, etc.) by sending only these members the gift.

General Structure

A smart gift has the following basic components: general gift settings (title, image, expiration, buttons, redeem code type, etc.), conditions (for redeeming the gift) and actions (which benefit the member receives when redeeming the gift).

You can also create more complex gifts using scenarios. Scenarios allow you to specify what will happen in different cases—by specifying different actions for different conditions. For example, you can give members greater discounts based on how much they spend or how many items they buy (such as 10% if they buy 2+ items but 15% off if they buy 3+ items). Learn more.

To create smart gifts:

  1. From the Benefits tab, click Smart Gifts and then Add Gift.

  2. From the Settings tab, enter the gift details.

    Field Description
Title Appears on the top of the Gift Screen
Description Enter the description, details, or fine print of the gift. For example, "Get a free tie with the purchase of any shirt."
Background Image  Add an image of the gift to appear on the Gift Screen and on the Gift List. See graphic guidelines
Value  Estimated value of this gift (how much it's worth to members according to its price)
Cost  Actual cost of the gift
Requires an employee code to redeem?  Redeeming a gift can be done using a dynamic time stamp, the POS (for POS integration) or an employee code.

If you select No, the gift can be redeemed using a dynamic time stamp or the POS (for POS integration). If you don't have a POS integration: when the member clicks Redeem, a dynamic time stamp screen appears and the member shows this screen to the employee to receive their gift.

If you select Yes, the gift can be redeemed by employee code.
Item's Short Name  Name that the employee sees when redeeming the gift. Enter the essence of the item (for example, “cup of coffee” and not “joining gift”).
Push Notification Message  When you send the gift (by automation or from Filter Members), you can choose whether or not to send a push notification with the gift. If you select Yes, then this is the message text that will be sent.
Valid From  Select from which date and time the gift can be redeemed. You can also specify the hour, minute and second. Note: You can also specify more conditions on when the member can redeem the gift (such as on which days of the week and times of day) from the scenario conditions.
Valid Until Select until which date and time the gift can be redeemed. You can also specify the hour, minute and second. Note: You can also specify more conditions on when the member can redeem the gift (such as on which days of the week and times of day) from the scenario conditions.
Deactivate After Select how many minutes/hours/days/weeks after the member receives the gift that the gift can no longer be redeemed. For example, if you choose to deactivate after 30 days, the member can only redeem the gift up to 30 days after they receive the gift.
Activate After Select how many minutes/hours/days/weeks after the member receives the gift that the gift can be redeemed. For example, if you choose to activate after 1 day, the member can only redeem the gift starting from the day after they receive it.
Add Tags To make this gift into a scratch card, type ScratchGift and press Enter on your keyboard. You can also add tags to add badges to this gift that are associated with these tags.

  3. Enter button texts and select button actions for the left and right buttons.

Notes: The default left and right buttons are Redeem and Close, respectively. If you select another action for the left button, the gift will also be redeemed in addition to the action you choose.

  4. If your business has a POS integration, select the type of redeem codes that can be used to redeem the gift.

    Type Description
Predefined Codes (Bulk) These codes are created in advance as bulks from Benefits > Codes > POS Redeem Codes. When the member taps Redeem, the next unused code from this bulk is displayed. The Reward SKU is used to connect the bulk of redeem codes with the asset so enter the same number in the gift settings and when creating the bulk. Learn more.
Autogenerated Codes These codes are generated on the spot when the member taps Redeem. For the redeem code expiration, enter how long after the redeem code is generated that it can be used by the POS. Learn more.
3rd Party Codes These codes allow customers (even non-members) to receive gifts from one business to redeem in another. The codes can be printed on code slips, sent by email, etc. For example, a credit card company can provide customers with a discount voucher for a furniture store. Learn more.

  5. If your business has a POS integration, add scenarios, conditions and actions.

  6. Click Save and Close.
